Obituary for Mary Hardee Nicholson

Mary Hardee  Nicholson
Mary Hardee Nicholson, 89, a resident of Athens, TX passed away on December 31, 2014.
Mary was a courageous two-time cancer survivor but lost her battle with Alzheimer’s. She passed away
peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

The daughter of George Washington and Sarah Isler Hardee, she was born August 17, 1925 in
Thomasville, Georgia. She was the beloved wife of Elex Z. Nicholson. Mary retired from the
Children’s Clinic in Tallahassee where she was a dedicated employee for over four decades.
Mary was a longtime member of Forest Heights Baptist Church in Tallahassee, FL. She had a
passion for gardening and her beautiful lawn was always filled with flowers. Gma Mary loved cats,
birds, and most importantly, her family.

She is survived by her son, Lee Nicholson and wife Mary of Athens, Texas; daughter-in-law, Hannah Harrell of Sopchoppy, Florida; eight grandchildren, Tracy Locke and husband Mark, Brett Nicholson, Megan Nicholson, Rita Sadler and husband Chris, Lola Pouncey, Jimmie Harrell and wife Lenae, Leland Vickery and wife Melissa and Kelly Vickery. She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who adored her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband “E.Z.” Nicholson; a son, Richard Nicholson and siblings,
Thomas Hardee, Ruth Parker, George Hardee, and Margaret Hardee.

The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 A.M., Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Abbey Funeral Home in Tallahassee, Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Abbey Funeral Home with interment following at Tallahassee Memory Garden.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Green Oaks Nursing Home, Oak Wood Place Assisted Living, IntegraCare Hospice, the Traxson family at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens, TX and Abbey Funeral Home in Tallahassee, Florida.
