Athens –Funeral services for Lloyd Arthus, 80, of Malakoff, Texas, are scheduled for 10:00A.M., Monday, June 29, 2015, at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with Bro. Cody Craig officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens.

Mr. Arthus passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 in Athens, Texas.

Lloyd Vernon Arthus was born May 9, 1935 in Crossroads, Texas the son of Ernest Arthus and Frances Whitman Arthus. He joined the United States Army in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1964. After his service to his country he began work as a Police officer, serving in the city of Tyler and later becoming the Sheriff of Rusk County. Lloyd was a Shriner, a member of the Athens Masonic Lodge #165 and Past Commander of the Trinidad V.F.W. # 4133. Later in life he began working as a general contractor building houses, owning an appliance and repair business, and taking advantage of his love for woodworking. He was a family man, a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather and brother who will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, James Arthus, Edwin Arthus and Franklin Arthus.

He is survived by his loving children, Vernon Arthus and wife Vanessa of Henderson, Texas, Dana Arthus and husband Daniel Sanford of Malakoff; one brother Bobby Arthus of Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters, Betty Gilmore and husband Jimmy of Tyler, Alphinell Berry of Athens; four grandchildren, Jamey Barina, Aimee and Bryant Johnson, Kacey Barina and Danny Gonzalez, Chris and Macy Arthus; seventeen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bryant Johnson, Danny Gonzalez, Jamey Barina, La’Bryant Johnson, Billy Lee and Jimmy Burge.

Visitation will be held from 3-5:00 P.M., Sunday, June 28, 2015, at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens.
