Obituary for Peggy Lynn O'Neal
Funeral services for Peggy O’Neal, 57, of Athens, are scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Thursday, December 31, 2015 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dan Rogers officiating.
Peggy passed away on Monday, December 28, 2015 in Athens.
Peggy Lynn O’Neal was born July 17, 1958 the daughter of Max Wayne O’Neal and Norma Jean Wilson O’Neal. She attended Athens schools and her favorite teacher was her aunt, Mrs. Betty Hollowell. She was a member of the Virginia Hill Baptist Church and was always full of laughter. Peggy loved dolls and animals, especially her pet teacup poodle named Prissy. She also had quite a collection of stuffed animals. Peggy enjoyed watching movies, cartoons and her favorite, I Love Lucy. She joined the Special Olympics of Texas Area 7 in 1976 and competed in Frisbee, shuttle relay, 50 meter dash and high jump; earning two gold, three silver and three bronze medals before she retired from competition in 1992. Peggy loved spending time with her family, was a loving daughter and aunt and will be missed by all her heart touched.
She is preceded in death by her father Max “Jake” O’Neal and her sister Elizabeth Gayle O’Neal.
Peggy is survived by her mother Norma Jean O’Neal of Athens; one brother James O’Neal of Athens; nephew Justin O’Neal and wife Christi of The Woodlands; niece Ashley McDonald and husband Greg of Athens; four great nephews and one great niece.
Visitation will be held from 2-3:00 P.M., Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
