Obituary for Gayland Lynn Paroline

A Memorial Gathering and Celebration of Life for Gayland Lynn Paroline will be held on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 7:00 pm at Dogwood Church with Bro. Scott Stentz officiating. Services are under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Gayland Lynn Paroline passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 9, 2016. Gayland was born to Luther and Irene (Lawson) Paroline on January 17, 1939 in Athens and was the second of their eight children.

Providing for, loving, and bringing joy to his family were Gayland’s main purposes on this Earth. He answered to many names including Daddy, Hawhaw, and Mr. Paroline and treated all he met with kindness and respect. He enjoyed being home, spending time in his garden, as well as feeding and watching birds in his front yard.

Gayland spent his career as a brick mason. Many of the buildings and homes in the Athens area showcase his handiwork. He was blessed to have worked for many years alongside his father and brothers.
Gayland married his lifelong love and soulmate, Donna Sue (Sue) Meador Paroline, in 1961 and they had two children, Robert Lynn and Gina Gay.

Preceding Gayland in death are his parents and younger brothers, Hubert and Doyle Paroline.

Surviving him are his wife, Sue; son Robbie and his wife Kim; daughter Gina and her partner Pam Goodwin; grandchildren Keith Marquez and wife Amber, Paul Marquez and wife Stacey, Tara Paroline and Carson Paroline; great grandchildren Kadence, Reese, Alexis, and Abby. He was blessed to have all his immediate family living near him in Athens. He also leaves behind his siblings Richard Paroline, Glenda Sparks, Ethalene Brown, Lurene Kennedy, Shelia Everett, their spouses, and children.
Gayland always did the right thing even if it wasn’t the easy thing. He will be missed tremendously.
