Dove Hunt in Abilene

Rex came to Abilene to hunt the dipping and darting dove flying fifty miles an hour. Tom Browning, a retired Texas Game Warden came with him. The Texas Parks and Wild Life daily bag limit of fifteen dove was difficult to understand....you see, Rex and Tom had more then one bag in their hunting vests. Some hunters can hunt all day and not bag fifteen dove, just two hours after the sun came up they were back at the kennel cleaning dove. Being from East Texas, they wanted to be in accordance with the law, so they put just fifteen dove in each bag. I didn't get to witness first hand their shooting but over dinner I did get to hear the details of the great shots. At one point Tom was sever for eight. Bill Gilmore of West Virginia was hunting with them and Bill was a great shot with a rifle but had never hunted dove. Tom and Rex being good friends helped him fill his bad limit. Over dinner I heard comments like: "Best hunt ever. Great hunt. I hope Rose and Doris appreciate all the work we are doing just so they can have some dove to eat. I'm full as a tick." Just one of many great memories
