Athens – Graveside services for Neyland Bass, 93, of Athens are scheduled for 4:00 P.M. Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Post Oak Cemetery near Malakoff with Chaplain Lynette Solomon officiating. Services are under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Mr. Bass passed away on Friday, August 18, 2017 in Athens.

Neyland Glenn Bass was born July 30, 1924 in Johntown, Texas the son of Frank Bass and Pearl Bell Bass. He joined the United States Army and served three terms before his Honorable Discharge in 1952 in Ft. Hood, Texas. He was self-employed as a construction contractor and loved building structures even in his free time. Neyland was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing with his late wife and his family, gardening and raising chickens and pigeons. He was most proud of the fact that he was Baptized last week by Chaplain Lynette Solomon and looking forward to his walk with the Lord. Papaw was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather will be missed by all those he knew and loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Dorothy Louise Peek Bass; son in law Randy Watson; three sisters and two brothers.

He is survived by his daughter Sue Watson of Athens; step daughter Patricia Sherrin and husband Jim of Texarkana; four grandchildren, Jody Watson and wife Kacey, Jennifer Roberts and husband Brian, Mona Simms and husband Pat, Candy Elam and husband Tim and eleven great grandchildren, Kolton Dowell, Hagen Dowell, Allyson Dowell, Brye Watson, Jace Watson, Tucker Watson, Trent Watson, Parker Simms, Austin Simms, Gilson Elam and Grayson Elam.
